Please check back for updates.<br><br> </p><h2>What is Area Code Day?<br></h2><p><strong> </strong>Area Code Day is celebrated in communities around the country, as cities embrace their local flare and uniqueness on the calendar date that corresponds with their local area code. </p><p>Area Code Day generally involves local businesses offering discounts, special promotions, concerts and cultural events that highlight local food and art. The celebrations typically originate between residents and businesses, with the support of local government and non-profits.<br> <br></p><h2>Why 602?</h2><p><strong> </strong>In 1947, the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) established the original list of North American area codes, with a goal of speeding the connecting times for long-distance calling. </p><p>602 was the original area code for all of Arizona and in 1995 it was split, with 602 serving the Phoenix metro area and the new 520 serving the remainder of the state. In 1999, 602 was split again to create area codes 480 and 623 for the east and west Valley, respectively. </p><p>As the population in the metro area has grown exponentially in recent decades, Arizona now has five area codes: 602, 520, 480, 623 and 928.
