Start-Up Stadium is a dynamic platform designed to connect early-stage biotech startups with global investors and industry leaders.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego praised the City's presence at Start-Up Stadium as a reflection of its forward-thinking innovation economy.

"Phoenix is proud to support breakthrough companies solving complex health challenges with precision and purpose," Mayor Gallego said. "From cancer detection to mental health and diabetes care, these startups are building a healthier future. We're honored to champion their work on a global stage at BIO International."

The event offers a unique opportunity for companies with fewer than 20 employees and less than $10 million raised to present their innovations at the world's largest biotechnology partnering event. Two companies will be awarded post-conference recognition: one in the Seed Stage category and one in the Emerging Start-Up category.

Representing Phoenix is Binary Genomics, which is transforming cancer diagnostics through a blood-based, tumor-agnostic test rooted in epigenetic precision medicine.

Michael T. Barrett, CEO of Binary Genomics, highlighted the impact of being part of this year's Phoenix delegation: "Our blood-based test detects tumor-specific epigenetic signals without needing a prior biopsy. We're honored to join the City of Phoenix at BIO International to spotlight our pan-cancer detection platform - built to identify even rare and underrepresented cancers early and guide more personalized, real-time care."

Start-Up Stadium is not only about diagnostics and therapeutics, but it also provides a platform to showcase innovation in mental health. MindX Sciences, another Phoenix-based company, is aiming to transform how mental health is assessed and treated by doctors and pharma companies.

"At MindX Sciences, we help people Live. Happier. Longer, " Alexander B. Niculescu, M.D., Ph.D., Founder and CEO, said. "Our science-based approach allows for objective mental health and pain assessments, personalized treatment matching, and prevention of future clinical episodes - empowering people to take charge of their lives."

ImmunoShield, a finalist in last year's Start-Up Stadium, is a Phoenix-based biotech company focused on advancing immune-modulating therapies, and has since deepened its work and expanded its connections, leading to success.

"Joining the City of Phoenix at BIO is a powerful opportunity to elevate Phoenix's biotech breakthroughs on a global stage," Matthew Becker, Ph.D., CEO of ImmunoShield Therapeutics, said. "We're honored to have our Phase II SBIR recommended for $1.88 million in funding by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). This support accelerates our work in enabling cutting-edge therapies for the millions of patients with insulin-dependent diabetes."

The Start-Up Stadium presentations will run throughout the week of June 16 in the North Lobby at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Attendees are encouraged to stop by, meet the next generation of biotech innovators, and witness the future of health sciences in action.

To schedule a meeting with the Phoenix Business Development team, or to learn more about Phoenix's bioscience hubs, visit PHXisBIO.com.

To schedule onsite media interviews at BIO International, or to schedule media interviews in advance of the trip, please contact:

Athena Sanchez, Communications Manager
City of Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department
Call/text: 602-621-0507
Athena.Sanchez@phoenix.gov

| Biological scientific image | | https://www.investinphoenix.com/Lists/News/Attachments/48/BIO_706470773.jpeg | 6/9/2025 11:29:45 PM |
