Phoenix Celebrates Opening of New NIH Clinical Research Facility at Phoenix Bioscience Core

This new facility will build on our world-class bioscience core, create new jobs, and generate more medical breakthroughs." Located on the seventh floor of the 850 PBC building, the 35,000 square foot research facility expands NIH's long standing presence in Phoenix, and further strengthens the city's growing reputation as a national leader in bioscience innovation. The state-of-the-art facility includes advanced clinical research space and the world's only clinical research unit with four human metabolic chambers dedicated to studying obesity, diabetes and metabolic diseases."The Phoenix Bioscience Core was built to bring together researchers, educators, healthcare providers, and innovators to solve some of the world's biggest health challenges," Phoenix District 6 Councilman Kevin Robinson said. "The opening of this facility is another milestone in that vision. It reinforces the City of Phoenix as a hub for scientific excellence and demonstrates how strategic investments in research benefit both our local economy and communities across the globe." NIDDK has conducted groundbreaking diabetes research in Phoenix since 1965. Its discoveries have advanced the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes while improving health outcomes for people around the world.The grand opening will include remarks from NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, NIDDK Director Dr. Griffin Rodgers, Phoenix Councilman Kevin Robinson, tribal leaders, and research partners, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new facility.
